6 Axis Turning & Machining Services

With 6 axis turning and machining, our cutting edges are really on the cutting edge.

Once upon a time, 3 axis machining was the height of innovation and technology in the industry.

Then someone really smart decided to double a 3 axis machine and create 6 axis machining, creating an innovative, highly-advanced, rapid machining solution for parts and components that are complicated and require a high degree of precision.

Because of its speed and cutting-edge performance, 6 axis machining has become incredibly popular among manufacturers. That’s where we come in.

For more than 60 years, B&Z Manufacturing has provided 6 axis machining services to create components and parts in industries where precision, power, and performance are critical.

We specialize in ultra-precise 6 axis turning and machining services to help create complex components with the rigid tolerances, proper resistances, exacting measurements, and stringent specifications you need.

6 axis turning machines

What is 6 Axis Turning & Machining?

6 axis machines add an extra axis of rotation from a 5 axis machine. With an additional axis of freedom, certain tool movements and transitions can be executed with greater speed and efficiency.

On a 6 axis machine, raw bar stock is turned at both ends and drilled, turned, and configured into the component or part you need.

With 6 axis machining, there is no need to re-position workpieces, eliminating accumulated stack-up error. Each and every feature is completed under one setup, decreasing production time by 75 percent, accelerating cutting times, while increasing precision and enhancing quality.

With a 6 axis machine, we can drill holes of different diameters and cut different patterns. Using a smooth application process, the quality of its final product is superior to other multi axis machines.

6 Axis Turning & Machining: Delivering the right tolerances

B&Z Manufacturing utilizes the proper 6 axis machining equipment to deliver the exacting tolerances you need each and every time. Our state-of-the-art machine shop includes:

  • Hardinge 6 axis, high precision lathe

When a part is completed, our quality assurance department inspects, tests and confirms tolerances using state-of-the-art, computer-controlled measuring machines.  The components we help produce require a high level of precision. Our capabilities include tolerances such as:

  • Complex turning: .060 inch to 84 inches in length
  • Complex turning: .060 inch to 38 inches in diameter
  • Thin-walled machining: .010 inch wall thickness on cylindrical housings, deep pocket turning and micro-tubing
  • Dimensional tolerances to 0.0001 inch with +/- and measurement to 0.0000020 inch

Machining the Material You Want

With 60 years of experience in machining, turning, and grinding, B&Z Manufacturing has handled just about every kind of material there is - from extremely exotic metals like Columbium and Waspaloy to common metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and copper.

While 6 axis machines are mainly designed for volume machining of steel, aluminum, and cast iron, we have the expertise, experience and equipment to provide 6 axis turning and machining services on almost any kind of material, including:

  • Alloy steels
  • Stainless Steel
  • Aluminum
    • Perfect metal to turn and machine. Light, strong, and machines easily. Forgiving and can accept feeds and speeds that other materials can't.
  • Brass
    • Very useful material. Light, strong, and with good wear resistance. Holds very tight tolerances if machined properly.
  • Copper
  • Plastics
  • Exotic Metals
